South Lake Tahoe Real Estate
Located on the pristine South Shore of North America's largest alpine lake,
South Lake Tahoe truly is a wonderful place to live, work and play. As the
only incorporated community in the Lake Tahoe Basin, the city takes great
pride in being a central hub of one of the country's most popular tourism destinations.
South Lake Tahoe Renaissance
The City of South Lake Tahoe has announced an exciting redevelopment renaissance in
progress at the South Shore. Today, Tahoe offers many new opportunities for both
visitors and local businesses. By joining hands with organizations like the
Marriott Corporation and Heavenly Vail Resorts, they are on an accelerated
path to a new dynamic era of controlled progress and ecological balance.
South Lake Tahoe is located 200 miles northeast of San Francisco,
California and 58 miles southwest of Reno, Nevada in the Sierra Mountain
Range. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 23,609.
The east end of the city, on the California-Nevada border, is mainly
geared towards tourism, with T-shirt shops, restaurants, hotels, and
the Heavenly Ski Resort with the Nevada casinos just across the border.
The city extends about five miles west-southwest along highway 50, also
known as Lake Tahoe Blvd. The western end of town is mainly residential,
and clusters around "The Y" - the X-shaped intersection of
US Highway 50, 89, and Lake Tahoe Boulevard after it looses its
federal/state highway designation.
